Horizon Health Network President and CEO receives Top 50 CEO Award May 13, 2010 - Donald J. Peters, President and CEO of Horizon Health Network in New Brunswick was honoured yesterday by Atlantic Business Magazine as one of Atlantic Canada’s top President and CEOs. The recognition is awarded to Atlantic Canada’s most accomplished business leaders. Mr. Peters received his award at the Atlantic Business Magazine’s Award Gala in Halifax on May 12. “We are very proud that Donn has won this prestigious award,” says John Laidlaw, Chair of the Board of Directors for Horizon Health Network. “Donn deserves to be congratulated. He has done an exceptional job over the past two years leading the formation of Atlantic Canada’s largest health care organization while maintaining the standards of delivering high quality health services to patients in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and northern Nova Scotia.” In March of 2008, the Province of New Brunswick appointed Mr. Peters as the President and CEO of Horizon Health Network (originally named Regional Health Authority B), a new health authority resulting from the amalgamation of four health authorities previously based in Moncton, Saint John, Fredericton and Miramichi. Horizon Health Network is the largest health authority in Atlantic Canada with more than 14,000 employees, 1,000 physicians and a budget of more than $1 billion. Previous to his current position Mr. Peters was President and CEO of the South-East Regional Health Authority based in Moncton, N.B. since 2000. Before this, he was the Chief Operating Officer of the Nova Scotia Central Regional Health Board located in Dartmouth, N.S. From 1984 to 1996 he was the CEO of the Dartmouth General Hospital and the Hants Community Hospital in Windsor, N.S. Mr. Peters began his health care career at the IWK Hospital and then the Halifax Infirmary where he was the Assistant Executive Director from 1976 to 1984.
