Third year for Mango Kids Fun Run

July 2, 2009 (Miramichi) - For the third year in a row, the Mango Kids Fun Run will be taking place Sunday, July 5 and will see hundreds of children participating.

This fun run completes the final 2.2 km of the Go for 42 program which took place in area schools from May 11-June 12. This program saw children from kindergarten to grade 8 in School Districts 9, 11 and 16 completing a 40 km marathon over a 4-week period.

Children completed the first 40 km of this marathon with their classmates and teachers. For each 5 km they walked or jogged, the children received colourful shoe tags. Go for 42 and the Mango Kids Fun Run is a great opportunity for families to get involved and together see the need to put physical activity into their daily lives.

The Mango Kids Fun Run coordinating committee would like to advise participants of some important information:
  • The fun run will start at the Linden Recreation Centre with registration beginning at 9:30.
  • If your child is pre-registered, they must pick up the registration t-shirt on July 5 at the Lindon Recreation Centre between 9:30 am until 10:45am.
  • The fun run begins at 11am
  • All children who finish the race will receive a medal
  • No bikes allowed along run route
  • Children should remember to apply sun screen, wear appropriate footwear and bring a water bottle.
  • Parents must be at the finish line to pick up their children. The approximate time for the event will be 20-40 minutes.
Thank you to the many partners who have worked together to bring this initiative to the Miramichi region: Mango, Department of Wellness, Culture and Sport Secretariat, School District 16, Newcastle Recreation and Leisure Council, Shoppers Drug Mart (Douglastown), Sobeys, City of Miramichi, Miramichi Kinsmen Club, Aliant and Miramichi Police Association.
