The Moncton Hospital to provide medical services at summer outdoor concerts

(Moncton) June 24, 2009 - The Moncton Hospital will be once again leading and coordinating medical services at the Magnetic Hill Music Festival - Summer Concert series. The Kick-Off concert with Bon Jovi and Canadian legends Bachman-Cummings will be held on June 27 with the ACDC concert on August 6. This will be the fifth consecutive year The Moncton Hospital will be providing medical services at the series of Moncton mega concerts.

"We are delighted with the City of Moncton's support in constructing a permanent Primary Emergency Medical building on site that will be used specifically for medical services at all future events," says Donald J. Peters, President and CEO of Regional Health Authority B. "We are very pleased with the City of Moncton's commitment to ensuring the best possible facility in meeting the needs of our medical team."

The permanent Primary Emergency Medical building replaces a tent and will allow the medical team to work in a less noisy, dry and well lit environment equipped with running water, electricity and plenty of space for medical equipment and stretchers. The large building is also strategically located next to the concert site's access road allowing easy access to two on-site ambulances if patients require transportation to hospital for further medical treatment.

"Our goal is to treat as many people as possible at the concert site to avoid overcrowding at The Moncton Hospital's critical care and trauma departments with minor injuries," says Carole Morey, Program Administrative Director Emergency, Neuro/Rehab and Internal Medicine for The Moncton Hospital. She says The Moncton Hospital's medical team will consist of physicians, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, respiratory therapists, paramedics, and additional support staff.

Medical services, provided in both official languages, will be available when the gates open on July 27 and will be available until the concert is over. The team will be easy to identify at the concert site as they will be wearing navy vests that read The Moncton Hospital Medical Team.

Medical services at the concert will include the Primary Emergency Medical building and two secondary Medical Tents positioned on the perimeter of the concert site. The tents will be easily identifiable with flags bearing an H. An off-site ambulance fleet will also be available if required.

First aiders and paramedics will be roaming throughout the site and within the crowd ready to help persons needing assistance to the Primary Emergency Medical building or medical tents.
