Fredericton – (May 22, 2009) Oromocto Public Hospital (OPH) experienced a break in a domestic water line on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 which caused flooding into a supply room on level one and down through to ground level effecting both the emergency room and diagnostic imaging departments.
Significant water, electrical, infrastructure, and equipment damage to the emergency room area and diagnostic imaging departments indicate that these areas will be closed for an extended period of time. However, patients may be moved back into the level one medical and surgical units within a few days.
"Contingency plans are being implemented at the Dr. Everett Regional Hospital (DECRH) to deal with potential increased volumes. Emergency room physicians and nursing staff from Oromocto Public Hospital will begin work at DECRH to offset workload for DECRH staff," said Nicole Tupper, Executive Director DECRH.
Staff are all working to determine the full extent of the damage and cost associated with the repairs.
"As always our priority is to the care of our patients and they are all safe and comfortable in their new unit here at OPH," said Tupper.
Please assist us in communicating the following temporary changes to services at the Oromocto Public Hospital:
